Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

Damage to automobile by unleased dog

My husband was using my car to drive to work in Greenwich and a very large dog ran out of a driveway and into the side of my car causing a huge, deep dent in the passenger side door, chrome strip and rocker panel. The dog ran off and my husband stopped to look for it to check on the dog's condition and to find the owner to report the damage. He couldn't find the dog or owner. He spoke with a Greenwich police officer who told him that the only thing he could do was site the owner of the dog for letting it roam. How do we go about getting the dog owners to pay for our vehicle's damage? Our car is insured but as it is an older model car (and not financed) we do not carry collision coverage.

Re: Damage to automobile by unleased dog

If you can't find the dog or the owner, there's not much you can do. If you know who the owner is the you can take action against the owner for the damages.Tom Noonan
