Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

Documentation of property acquired by ADVERSE POSSESSION

In the event that a portion of my property had been claimed by an abutting neighbor through Adverse Possession, are they required to notify me? Is documentation of such an action required and where would I find it?

Re: Documentation of property acquired by ADVERSE POSSESSION

If someone is trying to claim property through adverse possession, that person needs to file an Action to Quiet Title with the court. You would be served paperwork, just like when you're being sued by somebody. There would be a court process, and the judge would determine if the person had met the requirements to obtain title to the land. If the judge determines that the person had acquired title through adverse possession, judgment would be entered and the person could record the information on the land records.

Good luck!
