Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

Housing Tenant rights

I am currently unemployed and unable to pay my rent. I have not paid December or January and I am being taken to court. Do I have any legal rights for staying until I am able to pay back the rent. They have a 2 month security deposit.

Re: Housing Tenant rights

I assume that this rental is not a section 8 or other government supported rent. Unemployment is not an excuse for non-payment of rent. You may be able to contact your town's housing or social services office to get rent assistance for the short term, but I think it is a long shot. Talk to your landlord and explain your situation. You may be able to come to some arrangment to pay the current rent and some amount against the past due amount. Tom Noonan
