Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut
Landlord Tenant - Proper advance notice for vacating property at end of lease
As a tenant, whose lease is coming to an end, do we legally have to give advance notice to the landlord before moving out at the end of the lease period? If so, how much notice is legally considered to be ''proper'' and does it have to be in writing?
Since we do not have a pleasant relationship with our landlord we would prefer not to give any advance notice if it is legal to do so and simply move out when the lease expires at the end of August. Our lease does not seem to state anywhere that we have to give any notice but we wish to ensure that we are still not breaking any law by failing to remind him that our lease is ending and that we will not be renewing it. Especially since we believe that he will use any excuse to try not to return our full deposit to us.
Thanks...

The answer to your question depends on the language of the lease. Some leases contain notice requirements. Pull out your lease and check. If the lease is silent as to notice, you have no obligation to notify your landlord of your intention to leave.
