Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

What are the laws or options, if any, to prevent an elderly person losing their home due to expenses incurred in a rest home for long term care? The home is paid for. There is no mortgage, but can the home be taken to cover medical expenses, or are their any protections against this sort of thing.

Thank You

Yes, the nursing/rest home can put a lien on the property or eventually take it if they are not paid. This is a complicated area of the law and can not be explained on this website. You need to call an experienced elder law attorney who knows the proper planning to avoid losing the property. Generally, this type of planning must be done years in advance.
