What happens when a lein is placed on my condo for an assecment of 2000.00 for new roofing

Since I haven't reviewed the paperwork it's difficult for me to be specific. Generally, however, when a lien is recorded against real estate, the lien holder has some legal interest or right to monies owed to him/her and is attempting to guarantee payment of those monies at some later date by making a legal claim to the real estate or a portion thereof.
