Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

painting fence pink

my neighbors contacted the zoning commission regarding a small section of a fence I installed in July of '05. At the time of the installation they did everything to try and stop me from putting it up and contacted my survey company and the Town Hall in an attempt to prevent me. I was concerned and called Town Hall myself and was told everything was in complaince and there was nothing they can do. Now I hear from the zoning dept. that a certain section needs to be reduced due to a zoning change that took effect in May of '05. I was never made aware of this issue and it took my neighbors 2 1/2 years to find out about this zoning change. I may end up losing this case but I'm going to try and fight it. However, I was told by the zoning dept. that I have every right to paint their side of the fence pink if I wish and they can't do anything about it. Is this true? They have made me suffer so much since I moved next to them and I'm so upset about this fence. I want to know if I can pain the fence pink and if they can come after me at all legally if I do. Thank you.

Re: painting fence pink

If the fence is entirely on your property (and you're not going to have to move it due to zoning), you can paint it any color you want. I'm assuming you're not in an Historic District or something that regulates paint color.
