Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

Property not included in sale

I owned a home with my sister. We decided to go our seperate ways and she took full ownership threw Quit Claim Deed. At closing we both signed a written agreement as to what was not included in the buyout (I have original copy). She stated I would be able to keep whatever I need to keep there until I found a place of my own.

I went to retrieve my property and she was defiant so I had the police come to help out. The officer went inside the home to talk to her, emerged a couple minutes later and stated she would let me in to get the property. I was able to get everything out of the garage while the police officer was there. However, he did leave after seeing that everything was civil and that was when my sister stated I will not be allowed inside the HOME to get my property until I pay her storage fees (never agreed upon, first time hearing about this).

How do I get my property out of the house. Do I need a court order? Should the police make her let me in? If I can't get in, can she be charged with theft or something?

Thank You for your time

Family is alway tough to deal with. Presumably your agreement to store your stuff was verbal. Spend a little money and take your sister to small claims court if you can't get her to agree. Of course, if the police will assist you again, that may be less expensive. But you can take her yourself for under $50 to small claims. Call them in your jurisdiction and get the forms you need. Good luck.
