Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut
Property Theft/Insurance Fraud
I have a tennat that owes ''a lot' of money in back rent. last year as pasrtial backrent payment he handed over the title to his Mercedes as rent payment in case he couldn't catch up. the car was suppose to be in storage. We recently found out he filed for a lost title and pocketed the $8000. We now have a titale in our possession and no car and no money. What charges can we get him on? Can we get him for theft and possibly open a can of worms to insurance fraud for filing a lost title bond? Please help!

Re: Property Theft/Insurance Fraud
You need to file a collection action against him and serve him with summary process papers to get him evicted. Did he sign the title over to you? You may have a statutory theft or fraud case, but if he does not have any money, you will have difficulty collecting the judgment
