Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

removal of tenants possessions

I own my home. I brought in a roomate who moved out 45 days ago. she moved her bedroom out but has not removed the rest of her belongings which is plentiful (sofas, loveseats, etc.) and cluttering up my home from the basement to the walk up attic. she has promised repeatedly to remove her belongings but has not. what rights do i have? Is there a point in time where her belongings are considered abandoned and can be disposed of or do i have to go through the eviction process?

Re: removal of tenants possessions

It's always safer to go through the courts, just to CYA, but there is a point at which the court would consider her lack of interest to constitute abandonment. I would suggest you send her a certified letter (or FedEx or something which has a means of verifying that she got it) stating that if her stuff is not out in 30 days from receipt of the letter, you will consider her to have abandoned the property and will dispose of it. That's not as good as a court order, but will probably suffice.
