Title Search Delay Closing?

The buyer of my home is closing on their condo the same day, June 30th. Today they called our realtor and requested an extension on the closing date until July 5th. I was told the buyer of their condo, who signed a sales agreement before our buyers went house shopping, needs more time to complete the title search.

As we are moving 800 miles to another state and have our new home closing on July 3rd, we said no. We would default on our agreement in the other state.

Do title searches take that long, or is this just a stall tactic?

A title search can take awhile, especially if there is some cloud on the title that makes it unmarketable.
