Legal Question in Traffic Law in Connecticut

Ordinance

Police in my town stopped me this past Friday evening in town. They asked to see my license and registration which I gave them. When the policeman gave me back my license he told me the holder on my licese plate was illegal. I have had my car for 4 years, have lived in my town all my life have never received a ticket or been stopped. I served by country honorable during Viet Nam, traveld worldwide for my country and go to work everyday and never have been stopped by police because of a license plate holder. The police did not give me a ticket or a warning but I wonder why they stopped me. I looked at licenses plates throughout thtown and even at the Selectmen's office, who I grew up with, and he had a plate holder. I just feel like something is wrong when you can stop a women on a Friday night for a liscense plate holder.

Re: Ordinance

The police like to stop cars so that they can look around for signs of drinking, drugs or other illegal activity. Friday night is a prime time to find drivers who have been drinking. However, the police cannot just stop someone because they feel like it, they need some reason. I cannot say for sure, but I do not think a license plate holder is against the law unless it is covering up the numbers / letters or the registration sticker. I think this particular officer picked a very lame excuse to stop you to see if maybe you had had a few drinks to celebrate the end of the work week. I would not take it personally, but if you are really upset you can complain to the police chief.
