Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut

Attorney not disclosing will to wife-susrvivor

My 91 year old childless aunt who has dementia lost her husband more than one month ago. My 77 year old mother is the court-appointed conservator for my aunt. The lawyer who has the will ignores calls from my mother and will not turn it over to her attorney. My aunt who is declining rapidly is in need of nursing home care which my mother cannot get for her until we know her net worth. My mother (who lives on Social Security) and a cousin are providing 24/7 care which they cannot physically do much longer. For my own knowledge what are the options?-I know my mom's attorney is terrific and is working on it but I live 1000 miles away.

No. 1, a will has no effect until the testator dies. I can think of no reason why anyone would think that knowing what's in the will would reveal someone's net worth. As to the lawyer not giving the will to your aunt's conservatrix, it may be that he's afraid someone will tank the will, although that could be cured by, for example, lodging a certified copy with the probate judge. The trouble is that someone could claim the aunt revoked the will by destroying it. The lawyer's probably just being careful, although your mother, as conservatrix, has every right to demand the will.
