Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut
Began in probate, now foreclosed...IRS liens are huge!
My grandparents passed away 8 years ago.
My mother and uncle have been in probate
court over the course of these years
because he decided to contest the will.
In an effort to end the long battle, my
parents signed over their rights to a
property willed to them in return for
money. They placed a lien on my then grand-
parents, now uncle's house if the sum
was not paid. Well, two years later my
parents are foreclosing because they
never received payment. The uncle was
evicted and my parents learned from their
not-so-great attorney that there are over
170,000.00 in IRS liens against the property
which is appraised at 225,000.00. What, if any,
would be their options for paying the taxes?
Because it was still part of an inheritance do
these taxes need to be paid? Is there a way to
negotiate with the IRS for payment? My parents
have been going through this ordeal for quite
some time, I was just looking for some answers
for them.
Thank you for your time.

This is not the place. Your parents need to call an attorney knowledgeable in this area.
