Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut
do I have a claim
In 1986 my husbands mother died, stating in her will that everything would go to her husband(my husbands stepfather)and if her husband predeceased her everything would go to my husband. They were living in Florida at the time the wills were made. Well stepfather started living with a woman who felt my husband was only a step and didn't mean anything to him, his stepfather let my husband know that this woman and her grown children were his new family. We tried to keep in touch but apparently he didn't care. In the meantime, his only surviving natural child has been givine power of attorney, had the power of attorney terminated, the new woman was given power of attorney. We know he had the will he had made out with my husbands mother we don't know if he ever made a new will out. He recently passed away in New Hampshire (he has a son-in-law living there) and what we want to know is- can we find out if he ever made a new will and if he left my husband out would my husband have a claim because some of his assets (assuming he didn't live in a nursing home that took it all) were because of what my mother-in-law left him.

Re: do I have a claim
When trying to determine if a new will was written, one should check with the decedent's attorney, close friends, clergy or even the trust department of the decedent's bank. If that fails, it is not unusual to retain an attorney from the county where the decedent had lived to assist in the search.
Good luck.
