Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut
death of parent and her credit cards
Hi,
My mom has passed away, and leaves several credit cards with outstanding balances. These cards name her as the sole responsible person for the debt. I have been informed by one credit card company that any payment is 'voluntary'. That i do not 'have to' repay her debt. Where can I find out about the laws regarding this issue?
Thank you in advance

Re: death of parent and her credit cards
If the cards were in her name alone, then only her assest are liable to pay them. If she left nothing, then only her assets (not yours) are liable for the debt - no assets, no payment to the credit card company. Your credit will not be affected.
