Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut
My mother passed away just before Christmas. Her only asset was a bank account which also has my name on it. After all expenses are paid, the balance(under $50,000) will be split between me and my brother. There were several small life insurance policies ($500 each) which were paid out to the beneficiaries within a couple of weeks. The probate office told me that the will does not need to be probated because there is no real property involved. The only thing I have to do is fill out a Connecticut Estate Tax Return, Form CT-706 NT. Do the insurance policies have to be listed on it? If so, how do I fill out Form 712 that is requested for each policy?
