Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut

My mother passed away owe a credit card bill. She had no assets and we had an attorney handle the Probate Court. Now, they have contacted the executor and threatened to cause an issue with probate and ruin our credit. Executor got nervous and paid the credit card off. Was this the right thing to do?

I don't have enough information to answer the question. However, the executor should have called the attorney first before paying it off.

1. If she had no assets why is the probate court involved?

2. If she had assets, even joint ones, her creditors should be paid.

3. In any event, it wouldn't affect your credit.
