Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut

Priority of claims

my exhusband died owing me a large sum of child support.(What documentation is required for claim. I have judgement, also copies of all checks ever received - no contempt judgement) He also died owing a large hospital bill. (Had he completed all the paperwork, he likely would have qualified for some sort of assitance from the hospital)

Does child support have any sort of priority when it comes to claims against the estate. Also, one of the decedent's children had borrowed a musical instrument of his prior to his death. It is still in her possession and is valued at 50,000. Is there any way to get this back as it would go a long way toward paying the debts of the estate.

Re: Priority of claims

Medical bills have priority over child support, I'm afraid. You (or his estate) probably won't get anywhere with aid from the hospital, now that he's passed, but the executrix should try. As to the guitar, can you prove it wasn't a gift (or, alternatively, can the relative prove it was a gift)?
