Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut

Probate claim never filed

My grandmother died in 2001 and probate was never notified by her son. She owned 2 houses and has over $30,000 in the bank that cannot be touched. Her house is set to be forclosed in two months and her son, who lives there, has done nothing. She did not leave a will. Is there anything that I can do as her granddaughter to close out her estate and save her house? I wasn't aware of all of this because my father and I don't speak.

Thanks

Sure!! YOU can open an estate for her.If there was no will, you are also an heir, as well as her son. But you'll have to hurry to stop the foreclosure. Call me and I'll try to explain.

Yes. You can open an estate and request the probate court appoint an executor for her estate. If she died without a will, her estate would go first to her husband, if he is deceased, then to her children. If there is a husband and children surviving the spouse gets the first one hundred thousand dollars and then the rest is split 50% to the spouse and 50% to the children. If there are children surviving, not there is no provision for grandchildren.
