Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut
Salary for Power of Attorney
I am currently using the power of attorney for my father while he is unable to pay his bills or make decisions important to his lifestyle. My sister told me that I am entitled to a small amount in salary for this time. Is this true. Because there are added expenses that come with the execution of the POA like phone calls, postage, gas mileage, it would be nice if these expenses were covered.
Thank you.

Re: Salary for Power of Attorney
You are certainly entitled to reimbursment for your out of pocket expenses like phone, gas, parking, stamps, etc. Paying yourself for your time is another matter. Most Probate courts consider that this type of work is done (at least by children) for love and affection, not money. If you have to take time off from work you can pay yourself for whatever pay you gave up, however.
