Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut

My stepfather and mother were divorced, and subsequently my stepfather passed away. On his death certificate, my step uncle claimed that my stepfather had never been married. Why would he do that? Is it illegal to misguide someone on a death notice?

I don't why he would do that other than if your stepfather had left a will that devised an inheritance to his wife and your step uncle, knowing they were divorced, was worried your mother would get it.
