Re: wills

I am asked this question often. Unfortunately, there is no system for "recording," "filing" or "registering" wills.

If you have any idea who your father-in-law may have used as a lawyer to draft the will, you may want to contact him/her. Usually lawyers keep a copy of their client's wills.

If he had a safe deposit box, there is a probate procedure (fairly easy)to have the box opened to see if there is a will present in the box.

Otherwise, you should look among his belongings.

I am perplexed why, after approximately 4 years, you would ask this question. His estate should have been probated by now.
