Legal Question in Workers Comp in Connecticut
Closing of a case
I was injured at work almost 3 years ago. My thumb was severely damaged when I tripped over a hazard at work and fell and I needed recostructive work - which took place about two years ago. I have heard nothing from Workmans comp since my last check when I was out - other than to sign papers. What is the time limit to close a case?

There is no time limit. The onlky caveat is they wont likely close your case if you still work for the same place. It sounds like you would be owed permanancy award though...

Re: Closing of a case
In Connecticut there is no time limit for closing a case. If you do nothing further, you may never hear from Workers' Comp again. If your hand now is not as good as it was before the accident, then you are probably entitled to further benefits, but you'll need to request a doctor's opinion about permanency. If you want to settle your case, the value can be calculated by adding what they owe you now and what they can be reasonably expected to owe in the future. The trick is figuring out what they may still owe you and what benefits and medical bills they might be required to pay in the future. Again, you might want to ask your doctor what the future holds for your condition and what it may cost. If you don't have group medical insurance then you probably shouldn't settle your case because you may need expensive medical treatment in the future. Comp will cover any future treatment related to the injury for as long as the case stays open, and as I stated above, there is no limit to the amount of time the case can stay open, and it will stay open until you choose to settle it.
