Legal Question in Workers Comp in Connecticut

Hello.

I really want to be a police officer. Right now, I’m a full time EMT and a full time criminal justice student studying under the MS program at UNH.

I suffered a “complete rupture of the distal biceps tendon with mild proximal retraction and associated soft tissue edema/hemorrhage’ while at work and had to have surgery. My colleagues say to get a lawyer. Should I?

I am worried that I will not make a full recovery. They just started sending my benefits. My injury was on 6/26. I had the MRI two days later, and the surgery was 7/9.

My rehab intake was yesterday. The orthopedic specialist is requesting to meet with me twice a week. Thoughts?

Best.

You should make sure you consult with an attorney that specializes in workers comp to correctly file your claim. You are entitled to benefits and services that if obtained promptly can expedite your recovery and best improve your odds of moving on to your chosen career. WC is a slow process and not taking steps quickly at the inception of the process will come back to haunt you, especially in the New Haven area where the process takes longer. Good luck!
