Legal Question in Criminal Law in Cyprus

My brother is a foreign student at a Cyprus University. he was arrested for engaging in a fight with a taxi driver, was detained, charged to court and jailed. he is to be bailed for the sum of 6004,000 Cyprus pounds. we are concerned about the possibility of fraud and would want to know if this is normal process under Cyprus laws. We would also like to know how much Cyprus lawyers charge in general to take such cases.
