Legal Question in Business Law in District of Columbia

No company polict

My employer has informed me that my employment is in jeopardy due to a relationship I have with another employee. I am a corporate level employee and my girlfriend is a line level manager at another facility. We do live together. There is not a written company policy stating any problem with inter-company relationships. I have been informed that this relationship is disrupting the operation of that particular facility. Rumors, gossip allegations, but no facts. Is my or my girlfriends employment in serious jeopardy? Thanks

Re: No company polict

Generally speakng employment in the US is employment at will, meaning that your employer can terminate your employment for any reason, other than discrimination of any sort. If you and/or your girl friend happened to be employed pursuant to a written employment agreement, you will have to consult such agreement to determine the reasons for which you can be terminated. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please contact me at [email protected]. Thanks.
