Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in District of Columbia

I have been falsely accused of Conspiracy to commit first degree rape and false imprisonment and I went to court on July 16 2009 and the charges where dropped. Now I want to file a civil suit against the person who made these false statements about me, What kind of case do I have against that person and what steps would I take to proceed with the law suit???

The case would likely be termed a civil action for malicious prosecution (or something similar), but many more relevant facts would need to be developed and evaluated in order to determine whether your claim(s) may have any legal viability.

If the claim against you was indeed baseless, then a civil suit is certainly an option. Whether or not the person has money to pay you in the event that your lawsuit is successful is something that you should weigh. You should contact an attorney to discuss filing the suit. In addition, you will want to take steps to have your arrest record sealed so that this arrest does not hinder you in other situations such as new employment opportunities.
