What is the process for getting a bill introduced in Congress? Can it be done quickly?

Just check with the office of your local congress person on this and describe what it is that you want to get introduced, and they should be able to advise you as to how expeditiously it might be done, if in fact it can be.

Typically, bills are by introduced members in the House of Senate upon their own initiative or as a request from constituents. How quickly it can be accomplished is issue dependent. Meaning the convergence of politics, legislative drafting, how complicated the issue is, and congressional schedule will affect the timing of any given legislation. It can be done very quickly if you happen to be a Senator or a Representative. Otherwise you will have to persuade someone who is to introduce the bill for you. If your idea is a good one this might not take very long. If it's not, then (hopefully) it won't happen at all.
