Legal Question in Consumer Law in District of Columbia

credit card debt

My recently deceased father opened two credit cards. Upon his death he owed one company $2200 and the other $5000. I want to know if his widow, my elderly mother on a fixed income is responsible to pay this debt? She never signed for either one of these cards, however she did receive a card in her name at my fathers' request. It is the one totaling $2200.

Re: credit card debt

If the surviving spouse made charges on the $2200 balance account, she likely will owe

that amount to the credit card company.
