Legal Question in Consumer Law in District of Columbia

Private auto purchase

I purchased a 1990 porsche ''with 62k miles''. On the way home a warning light came on while driving. Taken to a mechanic it was found that the light indicated the speedometer was broken and as a result the odometer was not functioning properly, so the mileage is not correct. the seller has obligations under the Federal Odometer Act. He has not been agreeable to even discussing a settlement. How do I proceed in seeking action in court?

Re: Private auto purchase

You can pursue the seller on a couple of legal theories including statutory obligation as you mentioned and fraud. Keep in mind you will likely be only able to recover what you paid for the car, court cost and attorney fees.
