Legal Question in Consumer Law in District of Columbia

Wrong Stone in Ring

My fiancee purchased a diamond and setting from a local jeweler. The ring was beautiful and he received the certificate showing the quality of the diamond. Over a month after the purchase, the jewelery stored called to say they put the wrong stone in the ring! They say the stone is the ring is larger and of higher quality than the stone initially chosen, purchased and certified. They are asking to have the ring returned so they can swap the stones or have the difference in price between the two diamonds paid in full. They state they noticed the error during routine inventory.

Re: Wrong Stone in Ring

I would demand credible and convincing proof of these assertions from the jeweler before returning the ring to have the stones exchanged or agreeing to pay a surcharge for the allegedly higher priced one which was supposedly installed in error.(If that means the two of you returning to the store to see this proof convincingly demonstrated before your eyes, then do it.)
