Legal Question in Criminal Law in District of Columbia
Do i have an arrest record after getting booked unfairly?
While at college, I was picked up by a cop. I had been drinking, but I had no beer in my hand at the time. He questioned me and detained me when i asked why i was being questioned. He was very mean and determined to arrest me-- and ended up charging me with ''disorderly conduct/loud''. When I went to court the next day, I was able to sign an ''Intent to Post and Forfeit'' -- I paid 25 dollars, and my case was closed and i was relased. Although I signed a form asking for a lawyer, I was not provided one when i appeared before the judge (I think because the case was so simple). I was just wondering what exactly the ''Intent to Post and Forfeit'' does. I understand that my case is closed, and that I have not admitted guilt. However, will i still have an arrest record? They took my fingerprints and picture--will this information still be on file? If I do have a record, can I hire a lawyer to try to get my record expunged (and my fingerprints and photo out of their files)? I should not have been arrested, and it is important for me to have a clean record.

Sounds like a DC case to me. Whether you know it, yes you have a record. You were booked and by agreeing to "post and forfeit" you basically admitted "guilt". The Big question is how lone ago was this and how do you remove from your permanent records. Call for more info, Joe Trevino, Attorney at Law, 1-800-924-6217
