Legal Question in Criminal Law in District of Columbia

Innocent Owner Law

My son was driving my truck, and was pulled oover and arrested for possession of a firearm. I had to post a $900.00 dollar bond and attend a hearing to get my truck back. I have been told that I should be able to get my money back, because I was an innocent owner. Is this true? Does DC have a code for the innocent owner act?

Re: Innocent Owner Law

I don't know about a provision in the D.C. Code for an "innocent owner" but simple principles of equity should require that your $900 bond money be returned to you. You should contact the U.S. attorney's office in D.C. which handled the prosecution of the matter and briefly explain

what happened and provide the case no. and relevant dates and make the request as to when you can expect your bond money to be returned.
