Legal Question in Criminal Law in District of Columbia

I was wondering the process and the consequences of my situations. Recently I was charged with affray in Washington, D.C. What had happened was I hit this person and then he hit me and that was pretty much it as the police were right on the scene to arrest us. Do you know what the punishment for this would be? This is my first ever offense.

Here's the exact language of the DC statute on the charge of affray:

District of Columbia Statutes

Division IV. CRIMINAL LAW AND PROCEDURE AND PRISONERS

Title 22. Criminal Offenses and Penalties

Subtitle I. CRIMINAL OFFENSES

Chapter 13. Disturbances of the Public Peace

Current through 2006 Legislative Session

 22-1301. Affrays [Formerly Section 22-1101]

Whoever is convicted of an affray in the District shall be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned not more than 180 days, or both.

Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.******
