Legal Question in Family Law in District of Columbia

Birth Certificate

What type of lawyer would I obtain to get a court order to put my name on birth Certificate. My Birth Certificate has been at the Bureau of Vital Records in D.C. since 1959 that way. I went to obtain a copy of it one year and they told me I would need a court order because my name wasn't on the Certificate when it was transfered from the hospital. The hospital no longer exists.

Re: Birth Certificate

You should be able to effect the change by filing the appropriate paperwork yourself (pro se). A good place to start is probably the website of the DC Superior Court (www.dccourts.gov) and the links to pro se representation.
