Changing juridiction in a Joint custody case

I have joint custody of my son and have been living in Virginia for six months now. DC has jurisdiction over the case and I want to have it moved here to Virginia. What is the likelihood that DC would let go of its jurisdiction to Virginia?

Re: Changing juridiction in a Joint custody case

Once your son has been in residence

in the Commonwealth continuously for the six months required under the UCCJA (Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act), Virginia will be empowered to take jurisdiction of the matter and you could file your petition to seek modification of the current custodial arrangements in the appropriate Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court.
