Legal Question in Family Law in District of Columbia

child support payment question

After winning a sum in a local lottery. I was told that it is consider income. My question is after taxes the sum is around $140,000 paid all at once. But we both now that that money wont last long with needing expensives is their a way where child support wont expect you to maintain a higher amount after the money is gone. That amount wont last long. I have 3 children paying child support is ok , but is there a way that the payments wont be crazy high cause like I said before I have to live too & that money wont last long after needing expensives. Can you suggest what will or can happen in this circumstance.

Re: child support payment question

After the money is gone, it can no longer be counted as income for the purpose of determinating a child support obligation in the District of Columbia. (If you contact the local DC child support enforcement office, someone there can likely advise you as to how lottery winnings can be averaged with your other income over a period of years in order to result in lower overall payments.)
