Legal Question in Family Law in District of Columbia

Family Law

I am currently representing myself in divorce court. My house, with only my name on it was given to me by my now dead brother. My wife is trying to take this from me in divorce court. Can the judge allow my wife and our 4 children to live in house for 18years? I am 64yrs old and I am on Social Security.

Re: Family Law

Even though you claim the house was given to you as a gift and therefore should qualify as your sole property, belonging only to you, your wife apparenty thinks otherwise and is obviously attempting to assert some sort of marital claim, probably, something to the effect that during the course of the marriage she contributed in various ways to the increase in equity in this property and therefore she should have a share in its value.

And, if there are four minor children (as well as your wife) who need a place to live, it would not surprise me if the disposition which you have suggested actually occurred.
