Grandchild

If you adopt a daughter and she gives birth to a son, is the son a legal grandchild or does the law require that the son also has to be adopted in order to be a legal grandchild.

Nope, the child of your adopted daughter, is automatically recognized in the law as your grandchild for all legal purposes. No further legal proceedings are necessary--whether adoption or otherwise--in order for the child to be legally recognized as your grandchild.
