Legal Question in Family Law in District of Columbia

Legal age of minors by state

I probably checked the inappropriate box. I've always known the legal age of a minor to be anyone under 18, as a national standard. Now I understand certain states differ. For instance, I'm told that legally a female under 18 is considered a 'child' in District of Columbia while a male under 21 is considered a 'child'.

Re: Legal age of minors by state

Regarding allegedly what you were told as to the District of Columbia regarding the age of majority, the D.C. Code routinely refers to individuals under the age of 18 as minors or children and makes no gender distinction as to the applicabilty of that particular classification (and it would be very unlikely, constitutionally speaking, that the D.C. Council would ever even consider incorporating such a distinction in D.C. law).
