Legal Question in Family Law in District of Columbia

Moving

I have an 11 yr old son and the father sees him every other weekend because we have a court agreement and i am planning to move to florida. What would i have to do and will it be granted to me. I am married and stable. I have always worked and taken care of my son. My son's father is in and out of prison, i have a restraining order on him, behind on child support (which is only 27.00 dollars a week) and has two other smaller children with all different women and he is currently in an ISP program. Can you please give me some suggestions on what to do.

Re: Moving

Assuming that this matter is under the jurisdiction of the D.C. Superior Court, the applicable laws that you will need to concern yourself with(including notice requirements of your move) will be governed by D.C. rather than New Jersey law.

Therefore, I would suggest that you contact a D.C. attorney who is knowledgeable in these matters for a consultation or if you cannot afford the one hour or so which the attorney might charge for his/her time to advise you on these matters, then you should consult one of the numerous local legal services providers in the District of Columbia such as Catholic Charities or a similar agency.

Re: Moving

You need to obtain either thefather's consent or a court order authorizing your moving out of state. If he will notconsent, in writing, you should call me.
