Legal Question in Family Law in District of Columbia

Temp. Custody or Guardianship for Grandma

My mother is relocating and would like to take my daughter with her for about a year or two. She will need to act as the mother since i will not be there. Should i have temp. custody or guardianship paperwork drawn up?

One acting in "loco parentis"(in the place of the parent)with the parent's permission whether she be a relative or other person need not have formal(by court order)custodial status with respect to the child conferred upon them.

Furthermore, you really have no real idea as to exactly how long your daughter's stay with her grandmother might actually turn out to be.

"For about a year or two", you say. Realistically, it might well be a month or two or even less. Therefore, court action to adjust your custodial status at this juncture in my view would be quite premature.
