Legal Consultation - Stolen handbag

My wife's handbag was stolen while we were shopping in a furniture shop after the sales person assured us that its ok/safe to leave it on a chair there along with other personal belongings. Can we sue the shop or take any other legal action against them?

Of course, you could sue the shop, but would be unlikely to win on these facts(in my opinion).
