Difference in name in Green card application and other documents

I applied for my sister's Green card on family basis using her husband's name as my sister's last name back in 2002. Later we realized that onher passport and other documents, she has used other last name (i.e. not her husband's), would this become a problem later when he case will be processed

Dear Inquirer:

You should be able to amend the petition if you erroneously listed your own sister's last name. There should be no problem later, except to the extent that there was any fraud in her using a different name in her passport, if in fact she had changed her name previously to the last name of your brother-in-law.

I recommend that you email [email protected] or visit www.hanlonlawgroup.com if you would like further information.

I don't understand exactly who is the applicant here. How could you apply for your sister's green card -- you can apply for a petition for her to apply for her green card, but are you talking about the petition? Second, if you accidentally used her married last name, and she is no longer using his last name, they may request evidence of what her name was at birth, when she got married, and, if she is no longer using her husband's name, why? Sure, names can always cause problems, but not in the hands of a good attorney. Check with a professional before you proceed. Good luck!
