Legal Question in Immigration Law in District of Columbia

Foreign media rep. I visa

I am a journalist currently working for a US media company using my OPT. My organization offers sponsorship for an I visa which I am interested in. The org. has a sister firm in Cape town and intends to open an office in Lagos. The boss offered to send me to Lagos open the new bureau, then apply there for an I visa as an employee of the offshore company based in cape town. I am not sure it is a safe move and I don't want to be stuck in a foreign country...

What should I do or what can I do?

Is it possible to get the I visa from the US through a change of status using the offshore company as my employer?

Thank you for your input.

Re: Foreign media rep. I visa

Given the facts which you've outlined, it would seem prudent for you to apply

from the United States for the I visa, rather than attempting to do it from Lagos. Then, if there are any problems, particular in connection with verifying your employment status with the offshore media company in Cape Town, you likely would be in a better position to resolve them than if you were attempting to do such from a place like Lagos.
