I am an international student on an F-1 visa. Am I eligible to work for an unpaid internship that does not give me any compensation or school credit?

After your first academic year, assuming you continue to carry a full caseload and are in good academic standing, there are three available work options:

* Curricular Practical Training (CPT)

* Optional Practical Training (OPT) (pre-completion or post-completion)

* Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Optional Practical Training Extension (OPT)

Based on your facts, it appears like you would be seeking CPT. The internship must be related to your field of study and must be authorized by your school and USCIS.
