Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia
Former Employer ask for resume
My former employer is asking for my resume. The only explanation he gave me was that he needs it for a lawsuit with a former client.
This former client gave my former employer office space, which was our temporary 'home base' during our main office renovation. I worked in the same office as this client for 6 months.
My initial reaction is I don't want to give my resume. Beyond employment records (which I know an employer should keep), I'm not sure how my resume is relevant to the lawsuit and I feel uneasy about having my presence involved with any lawsuit. Is it normal for a former employer to ask this? Can I politely decline?
I'm placing this under ''labor and employment law.'' If I should address the question under a different area of law, please let me know.
Many thanks!

Re: Former Employer ask for resume
Absent some persuasive and credible reason for this request, it would be my opinion that you should probably decline to comply. (And, this former employer's claim that "he needs it for a lawsuit" would appear to be neither.)
