Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia

Employment fraud

I worked for a division of a parent corporation. The Publisher, HR Manager and my immediate supervisor were involved in my hiring and interview process in January 2001. I was assured that the company was financially stable.

I started working in February 2001,5 months later the Managing Editor and my immediate supervisor resigned. I later find out that since 2000 the parent company discussed relocating departments out of the dc area and eliminating jobs. Several conference calls and meetings were held between Oct-Dec 2000.

Needless to say the three departments that were rumored to be eliminated were laid off in June 2002.

After reviewing Lazar v. Superior Court of Los Angeles, I am wondering if I have a case to bring against the three people who interviewed me and the parent company for employment fraud? About 8 employees were hired between January 2001-June 2001, 5 of us were laid off before August 30th, 2002. I feel my opportunity to find stable employment in 2001 wasruined because of the misrepresentation at the interview. I accepted the job offer based on the information given at the interview.

Re: Employment fraud

In D.C., the facts you've outlined would not constitute a suable case. California, under Lazar may be a different matter, if that's where the parent company is located.
