Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia

Exempt employee DC - forced meal breaks

I am an exempt employee working in DC. I recently requested to work an 8 hour day without lunch breaks so as to cut down on my commute time and have more of a home life. I never take a lunch break anyway. My employer is balking saying that it is illegal for me not to take an unpaid break. So, therefore I am required to remain on the job site for 9 hours whether I need or want the hour-long break I never take anyway. Did I mention that I am exempt? Our employee manual does not mandate lunch breaks.

Re: Exempt employee DC - forced meal breaks

You should ask your employer as to why s/he believes that it is "illegal" for you to work through lunch, particularly, in light of your exempt status.
